Celebrate the Yims
Pastor Dave “Dae Gyu” Yim will join us for his first worship
service on Sunday, July 7th.
Come welcome him and his family by attending service and
joining in a reception directly afterwards. There will

Sign up for a “Meet and Greet” session for a casual time of
conversation and listening to one another. Please sign up in
the Narthex on Sundays or contact Patti Cash at patti@patticashmarketing.com
to pick a time you would like to attend. The sessions will
last approximately an hour and will take place at church.

Ad Council Meeting
There is an Administrative Council Meeting on Saturday, July 20th at 9:00 am
in the Standing Rock room. Please plan on attending if
you are a member of the Ad Council, but everyone is welcome!
60th Anniversary Celebration
Join us in commemorating this 60th year of our church and
continuing our mission by purchasing a canvas tote bag ($25),
reusable grocery bags ($5) and/or stickers that allow you to
use an app to get credit for every time you refill your
grocery bag or water bottle and support important initiatives
for clean water through the Fill It Forward organization https://fillitforward.com.

New Bulletin Board
Come see the updated bulletin board in the church
hallway! It still has everyone’s inspirations and
thankfulness, but now it also has everyone’s greetings in the
form of the fans we used while passing the peace during
social distancing.
Second Saturday Diners
Is taking a break for the summer and will meet again in
September.
Bible Study Classes
Once Pastor Dave has arrived and gotten
settled (after July 1st), he will determine the continuation
of the classes, their meeting days and times in consultation
with those currently participating. Please be patient as he
learns his way around WUMC.
Sunday School
Sunday School will
be taking a recess during July and August. The children
should stay in the sanctuary during the service and may make
use of the activity bags.
Activity Bags are available in the Narthex.
We use inspiring stories, creative crafts, and fun games—all
done with guidance of loving, dedicated teachers—to engage
our students.
Here’s our process: Children begin the worship
service in the sanctuary with their family. Following the
“Praying” segment, the children will be invited up to the
chancel steps for conversation with the pastors. (We call
that time “Conversing with Children.”) Following that, the
Sunday School teacher will meet the children in the Narthex
(the big room outside the sanctuary) and walk them to their
classroom. They will be in either the Trinity Room in the
main hallway or the Blue Room in the Preschool wing.
Life Line Screening
Life Line Screening is returning to the building on September 10th. As the host of the

Toastmasters
Would you like to speak with more confidence in any setting?
Toastmasters can help! The Woodridge Toastmasters club meets
on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month
at Woodridge United Methodist Church. Come

Introducing Pastor
Dave (DaeGyu) Yim
Pastor Dave (Dae-gyu) Yim was born and raised in Incheon,
South Korea. He married Bang-Wool in 2010 in Seoul, South
Korea. He is the father of a 13-year-old son, Jiho, a
10-year-old son, Jiwon, and an 8-year-old son, Jisung.
Pastor Dave personally accepted Jesus as Savior while in
middle school, an experience that remains vivid. While
praying with his mom, he felt that God loves him so much.
Later, in high school, he was on a short-term mission trip to
the Philippines, where God reaffirmed God’s love, extending
it not only to Pastor Dave but also to the people he
encountered in the Philippines. He firmly believes that the
universal love of God is available for all men and women
worldwide through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Pastor Dave graduated from Methodist Theological Seminary in
Seoul, South Korea, in 2008. He earned his master’s degree
from Methodist Graduate School in Seoul in 2011. In 2011,
immediately after completing his graduate studies, Pastor
Dave came to the United States to study abroad, accompanied
by Bang-Wool and Jiho. He obtained his M.Div. (Master of
Divinity) degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological
Seminary in Evanston in 2015. Bang-Wool majored in music
composition at Soong-Sil University in Seoul in 2005, and she
has been providing piano lessons for many children while also
accompanying piano at various churches. Pastor Dave was
commissioned as a provisional member in 2020 and fully
ordained as an Elder in 2022.
Pastor Dave served as a student pastor and children minister
in Seoul for four years before he came to the United States.
He was an assistant pastor at Our Saviour’s UMC in Schaumberg
for two years while he was in the seminary. He dedicated five
years to ministering at Leland UMC & Ottawa Evangelical
UMC at a local pastor and four years to ministering at
Savanna First UMC as an Elder. Pastor Dave is deeply
passionate about facilitating both the physical and spiritual
growth of churches and helping people meet Jesus Christ. His
love for God’s churches is evident, and his heart is
committed to serving God, God’s people, and others in the
local community. Pastor Dave is also enthusiastic about
studying the Word of God and sharing its teachings with
church members. He loves visiting people. Additionally, he
holds a strong passion for mission work, music, caring for
children and youth, and people in need.
Pastor Dave enjoys listening to music, reading books, and
outdoor activities such as riding bicycle, hiking, and
gardening during his free time. He also likes playing table
tennis, guitar, and soccer. Family meals bring him joy, and
he appreciates all kinds of food. Pastor Dave has a deep love
for nature and trees.

Dear Servants in ministry,
Greetings in this holy time of anticipation and promise.
At this time of year, we celebrate the coming of a child.
Christmas, Epiphany, the boy Jesus in the temple—all center
on a child.
Indeed, children should always
be in our hearts and minds. And now, people
who were abused as children need our Christian compassion
and generosity.
Repair the Harm to Children,
the Northern Illinois Conference campaign to address the
needs of people who suffered abuse in a Boy Scout troop as
children, needs our support.
Many churches, including United Methodists, have chartered
Boy Scouts of America troops or packs over the years. As
part of the settlement of a lawsuit brought by these
survivors, the United Methodist Church has agreed to
contribute $30 million to a survivors’ fund over a
three-year period. Northern Illinois Conference’s share is
$754,348.
Your church can be part of the
healing for these survivors by committing an amount equal
to 1 percent of its budget to this fund.
This amount is payable over three years. Your church will
still have 99 percent for local and church-wide ministries.
We don't invite people to pledge because they participated
in the harm. We invite you to give because you care about
the welfare of children and want to help those who were
hurt as children to experience healing.
The Repair the Harm to Children
campaign is not only about financial compensation for the
survivors. We also commit to listening to
survivors, if they request it, with compassion. We will
also redouble our efforts to keep our churches safe for
children and vulnerable adults.
Our conference has received, as of this date, donations and
pledges from 28 churches and several individuals. We have
received commitments for $136,770, 18 percent of our goal.
So far, pledging churches have contributed $54,036.69. We look ahead with confidence that we Northern
Illinois United Methodists will achieve our goal.
Steps Toward Participation
- Your church identifies the amount
of its pledge.
- Visit umcnic.org/RepairtheHarm
and complete the Pledge Form linked from that page.
- When your church is ready to
begin fulfilling its pledge, visit the Make a Payment
link on that page. Remember, your church can fulfill
its pledge over three years.
This site also contains many resources
to help interpret the importance of this commitment. People
in your church who have participated in Scouts as young
people or leaders and those who care deeply about
children’s wellbeing can serve as ambassadors for this
opportunity to help others.
Please remember that Boy
Scouts, Girl Scouts, and other youth organizations support
children’s faith formation and are worth hosting in our
churches. The BSA commits itself to
strengthened protections for participants. Adding your
church’s vigilant observations of Safe Sanctuaries
practices, Scout troops and packs can be a safe and
enriching experience.
Knowing about NIC churches’ and individuals’ generosity, I
look forward to our receiving your pledges and gifts.

Offering
Grace Children's
Hospitale and Pediatric Clinic
Caring for and creating hope for children and
families suffering from TB, HIV/AIDS, chronic illness is
the focus of Grace Children’s Hospital in
Port-au-Prince. The goal of this project is to provide
hospital and out-patient care for children and families
with tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and respiratory
infections and follow up with clinical healthcare for
patients discharged from Grace Children's Hospital and
their families. Long-term, the project hopes to expand
its reach to more families and to educate the community
about healthcare and nutrition.

DuPage PADs is Reaching New Heights for
Ending Homelessness
Charity Challenge: The Great
Descent
Will you be one of the brave 100 Charity Challenge supporters
in DuPagePads' Mission to End Homelessness!
A first for DuPagePads, you are officially invited to be a
part of this thrilling fundraiser, hosted in partnership with
Over The Edge. 100 brave supporters will commit to rappelling
12 stories from the roof of Hotel Arista, located in the
heart of the CITYGATE dining and entertainment campus in
Naperville, Illinois.
The Great Descent is a day-long celebration of courage hosted
on September 8th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the roof, and on
the ground at Hotel Arista. Family, friends, and spectators
are invited to come watch and cheer on participants as they
rappel 12 stories from the roof top, while enjoying music,
food and fun at ground level.
Not a fan of heights? We'd still love to have you join us
to watch or make a donation of any level to help reach our
brave rappellers' fundraising goals and help more families
and neighbors end their homelessness this year!
This unique way to fundraise is only one of two in
Chicagoland, and your only opportunity in DuPage County this
year! Will you be one of the 100 brave neighbors stepping off
the roof of Hotel Arista this summer and helping to end
homelessness here at home?

"Goin'
Green" Shoes & Clothes Recycling Box
Located in the northeast
corner of our parking lot, this receptacle is a
convenient place to recycle any shoes and your clothes that
are at or near the end of their usefulness. Did you know
discarded clothes account for more total landfill space than
any other waste item? The “Goin’ Green” Box helps us reduce
our waste.
West Suburban Food Pantry
There is a shopping cart that is waiting
for donations. It sits in the narthex, usually near the
sanctuary doors. The food pantry serves many
households and always welcomes
donations!!! We are all one bad month, week, or
day away from needing emergency food services. The
pantry strives to provide their customers with
nutritious meals like we would our own families.
Used Eyeglasses
There is a
basket also in the narthex for collecting
used eyeglasses. Kendra Manderfield Moore makes
sure that they are recycled to the Lions Club and Gift
of Sight groups. (Prescription
eyeglasses only).
