“The Power of
Noticing What We Have”
What do we think we
have as individuals, as a country, a church, or a family?
Our possessions are related to power, and what we have
gives us power. Do we believe that we have power as
individuals and as a church? What do we think we have?
Even a child has power in specific situations. For
example, the boy who gave five loaves of bread and two
fish to Jesus and his disciples in the Bible had power in
that moment. He had food when others around him,
including Jesus and his disciples, didn’t. Again, what we
have is related to power. King David had great power as
the king of Israel, but he forgot how blessed he was by
God, leading to serious problems in his life. We have
become so greedy and materialistic that we hoard too many
things in our lives, not even thinking about sharing with
others. This Sunday, we will learn from King David,
Jesus, and the Boy about sharing our power. It starts
with recognizing what we have. Please come join us in
person or on our Woodridge UMC
YouTube Channel!

Outreach
Backpack Update and Opportunity to Serve
Thanks to all who have contributed so far - this Sunday is
the last day to bring in supplies to provide backpacks filled
with school supplies for 300 Woodridge children. We
have several opportunities to serve connected to this event
coming up in the next few weeks:
- We are asking for help
on THIS Sunday
to load up the van - please come to the Preschool wing
after service and we will be moving all the supplies
into a minivan and bringing them to St.
Scholastica. This should only take 15 minutes or
so. If anyone has a little extra time and could
come over to St. Scholastica to help unload the van that
would be a great bonus.
- We encourage people to
sign up for the 2 dates we have been promoting
- Aug 3rd
at 9 am to fill backpacks at St.
Scholastica to set up backpacks
- Aug 11th
at noon at Echo Point Park to distribute
backpacks).
60th Anniverary Committee
There is a meeting of the 60th Anniversary
Committee on Tuesday,
July 30th at 9:00 am.
First
Friday Lunch
Join us for First Friday Lunch at noon on August 2nd.
Just bring your lunch and be ready for good conversation and
of course laughter. Everyone is welcome!
Preschool
Yard Sale
We are planning on having the sale on Saturday, August
17th from 9 am to 3 pm and would also like to
have it on Friday,
August 16th if we can get enough people to
run the sale (minimum of 2 inside and 2 outside).
Ideally, we would only have people work 2- or 3-hour shifts,
but if someone can assist the entire time (with a break for lunch,
of course), it would be appreciated. We are in need of pop-up
tents, too. Please let the church office know if you
can assist.
Coming
Soon: Safe Sanctuaries Training
It is time for us to care for our congregation again and
participate in Safe Sanctuaries Training. A date is
pending and will be announced soon. All Sunday
School Teachers, Ushers, Youth Council and anyone else who
care for our vulnerable member should plan to
attend. Look for background check information coming in
your email if you have attended previously.
60th
Anniversary Celebration
Join us in commemorating this 60th year of our church and
continuing our mission by purchasing a canvas tote bag ($25),
reusable grocery bags ($5) and/or stickers that allow you to
use an app to get credit for every time you refill your
grocery bag or water bottle and support important initiatives
for clean water through the Fill It Forward organization https://fillitforward.com.
Everything is on sale now in the narthex (or stop by the
church office). Follow the link to see Fill It Forward’s
partnerships https://fillitforward.com/giving/
and the clean water causes that are helped by your scans.
Second Saturday
