Preschool
Yard Sale
We are planning on having the sale on Saturday, August
17th from 9 am to 3 pm and would also like to
have it on Friday,
August 16th if we can get enough people to
run the sale (minimum of 2 inside and 2 outside).
Ideally, we would only have people work 2- or 3-hour shifts,
but if someone can assist the entire time (with a break for
lunch, of course), it would be appreciated. We are in need of
folding tables, too. Please let the church office know
if you can assist.

attend. Look for background check information coming in
your email if you have attended previously.

Excerpts from
Bishop Schwerin's Pastoral Letter on General Conference
Changes
...United Methodists have an expansive view of grace.
Grace is God's unmerited, unqualified love and regard for our
good. John Wesley insisted grace was free for all and needed
by all. We are here to grow in grace. Ministry is living by
grace in our daily lives, and ministry is from anyone to
anyone. Our hope is in God's freedom, and in God's capacity
to offer grace that makes new. Some decisions at the General
Conference helped us reflect what we say we believe.
The prohibitive language related to weddings for our siblings
who identify as LGBTQ+ was removed from our Book of
Discipline. Clergy who identify as LGBTQ+ need not live in
fear of being brought up on charges. Mandatory penalty language was removed. Until
1972 our predecessor bodies that make up the UMC did not have
any such language in the Book of Discipline. In some ways we
are coming home to what was.
The definition of marriage was
expanded to include the types of family that people are
choosing today. We recognize marriage is
between a man and a woman or between two adults of consenting
age.
Let's be clear:
- No one needs to be afraid of losing
their clergy credentials for performing same-gender
weddings.
- Clergy can choose to perform
same-gender weddings or choose not to.
- Local church boards of trustees can
decide what kinds of weddings they wish to host in their
buildings.
- Clergy will be appointed in the
ways we have always appointed them, based on stated
needs for the mission and gifts to match those needs.
Appointments will not be made to do harm to our
ministry.

Outreach
Opportunities
August Outreach Offering
RefugeeOne
Every year, RefugeeOne welcomes hundreds of
refugees through the U.S. State Departments Refugee
Admissions Program. Having fled violence, persecution, and
war, vulnerable refugees from around the world come to the
U.S. to rebuild their lives. As the largest resettlement
agency in Illinois, Refugee One has welcomed more than 18,000
refugees since 1982, walking alongside them from the moment
they land at O’Hare. Resettlement is a long and often
difficult process. With your support, RefugeeOne not only
equips refugees with the skills needed to survive, but
provides a full range of coordinated services that empower
refugees to build the foundation for a flourishing life here
in the United States. Services include providing
furnished apartments, English classes, job search support,
mental health care, youth programming and mentors to help
them adjust to life in the United States. Visit refugeeone.org.
