“I Will Raise
You Up”
Absalom, King David’s son, was next in line to the
throne, posing a natural threat to his father, the
reigning king of Judah. Yet, despite this, David loved
Absalom and hoped that one day he would become king.
However, rebellion arose within David’s family,
ultimately leading to Absalom’s death in battle.
The sin that David committed against God brought many
troubles upon his family and his country. God called
David to care for God’s people and provided him with
everything he needed to do God’s work. But David failed
to follow God’s guidance. Similarly, God has called us to
care for the world and provided us with everything we
need to do God’s work. Like David, we might also fail
because of many troubles and challenges in our current
societies.
We should remember that the sin of one person (King
David) had a profound impact on his family and his
country. At the same time, the death of one person on the
cross has affected all of God’s creation. God calls us to
lift people up, not bring them down. We are the people
who follow the way of Jesus Christ. Let us lift up people
together. Please come join us this Sunday in person
or on our Woodridge UMC
YouTube Channel!

Letter from New
District Superintendent

Hello Prairie Central Clergy and Laity!
Wow! The Holy Spirit has been moving powerfully in the
Prairie Central District this summer! What a joy to
see the pictures and read about all of your efforts to
share Christ with your communities this summer. Thank
you for your energy and faith!
As we move toward the fall season, I hope you’ll join me in
praying for all of our children, youth, and college
students, along with teachers, professors, and school
staff. And yes, don’t forget those bus drivers! I
am also praying for each of you, as you lead your faith
communities into a season of “back to church” and backpack
blessings and fall fests. In the United Methodist
world that you and I live in, fall is also the season for
Charge/Church Conferences! As I get to know each of you and
your churches, I can’t wait to visit with you in
person. I plan to be present for each charge
conference so that I can listen, with the ears of my heart,
for what God is doing among you and the wider communities
you serve.
As you plan your fall calendar, Bishop Schwerin and I
invite you to join us for my official “installation”
as District Superintendent, to be held on Sat., Sept. 14 at
3 p.m., at the Barrington United Methodist Church. I’d
love for you to send a few representatives from your
church, so that I may have a chance to greet you. Your
presence and participation matter, not just to me, but to
this part of the body of Christ, called the Prairie Central
District!
In Christ,
Rev. Wendy Hardin Hermann
Superintendent, Prairie Central
District

Every year, RefugeeOne welcomes hundreds of

refugees since 1982, walking alongside them from the moment
they land at O’Hare. Resettlement is a long and often
difficult process. With your support, RefugeeOne not only
equips refugees with the skills needed to survive, but
provides a full range of coordinated services that empower
refugees to build the foundation for a flourishing life here
in the United States. Services include providing
