WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

“See the World as God Sees!”

Life doesn’t always go as we expect and plan. Though many may have mixed feelings about the election, let us bring our concerns to God with open hearts, trusting God to guide our nation’s leaders. Our role as the church is to stand firm in our commitment to justice and integrity, placing our trust in God, who is love. I, too, will continue to pray for our current president and incoming president, asking for God’s wisdom and guidance for our country.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Phillippians 4:5-7

In this week’s message, we draw inspiration from two powerful examples in Scripture: Esther and Jesus, both of whom teach us to act with compassion and prioritize God’s values over the world’s expectations. I invite you to see the world as God sees it. Please, join us for our Sunday worship Service in person or on our Woodridge UMC YouTube Channel at 10:00 am.

Woodridge UMC Holiday Craft and Vendor Fair and Bake Sale TOMORROW

Woodridge UMC is having a craft and vendor fair on Saturday, November 9th from 9 am to 2 pm.  Come and join us for the show!  There is a bake sale, raffle and POPCORN, too!

THIS Sunday is Commitment Sunday
We love reminding you just how grateful we are for your consistent, faithful financial gifts to Woodridge UMC! Your ongoing generosity makes it possible for us to be a safe place of welcome for all kinds of groups throughout the week and for you and all our neighbors on Sunday mornings.

As you read in the letter you received or heard in Wally Jeske’s presentation last week, THIS Sunday, November 10th, is Financial Commitment Sunday. After prayerfully considering your intentions for giving to Woodridge UMC in 2023, we ask you to fill out the 2024 Estimate of Giving Form (included with the mailing or available in the narthex).

Please bring the form with you to this Sunday’s worship service as we will collect and consecrate them.

If you are unable to attend worship in person this week, you may attach your 2023 Estimate of Giving Form in an email to our Financial Secretary, Geoff Morman (finsec@woodridgeumc.org).

Or you may mail your 2023 Estimate of Giving Form to the church office at 2700 75th St., Woodridge, IL 60517.

Thank you for being part of the ministry of Woodridge United Methodist Church!

60th Anniversary Sign
Our current sign is 30 years old and no longer working.  In celebration of 60+ years together, we are working towards replacing the broken sign with a new electronic messaging sign.  Designs and quotes have been requested from sign companies. Research has given us a general idea of the costs, which are about $50,000.  Thanks to a generous donation, we have a substantial start to the fund.  However, this is a huge endeavor, and we are asking for further donations from the congregation.  Please join us in celebrating our church and donate today!  If you wish your donation to be in memory or honor of a loved one, we will publish the list when the sign is installed.

Second Saturday Diners - TOMORROW
We will be meeting on November 9th at 5pm at Tong's Tiki Hut - 100 Roosevelt Road in Villa Park (located between Ardmore and Summit).  Let us know by Friday, November 8th if you plan to join us.

Tricia: (630) 525-1846 (prefer texts) or tricialvalenta@hotmail.com

The restaurant is in the back corner on the left side of the strip mall.

Scarf Outreach
Thank you to all the people who donated polar fleece for the hat, scarf and mitten outreach program.  We have reached our goal of 253 scarves!  We still need your help.  On THIS SUNDAY, Sunday, November 10th, we ask that you bring a pair of scissors to church.  After the service, we will be cutting the fringe of those 253 scarves in the narthex.

Meal Train for the Yim Family
Thank you to everyone that helped to provide meals for the Yim Family while Bang Wool is in South Korea for cancer surgery and treatment. Bang Wool will be back next week.
You are all wonderful!!

Soup "Train"!
Mike Marvel had another dental procedure and will be on a soup diet for the next couple of months.  We are looking for people to make soup, freeze some in a quart container(s) and bring it to church.  Please label the container with the type of soup. Pastor Dave will deliver the soup to Mike.

Just in Time for the Holidays - Gift Card Sales are Back!!
That’s right, the Gift Card sales are back! Starting this Sunday, you can purchase gift cards for a variety of different stores and restaurants - - including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Chipotle, Chili’s, Jewel-Osco, Meijer, Starbucks, Target, Walmart and many others - - and a portion of the sales will go toward the WUMC general fund.

These gift cards make terrific presents to give to others during the holidays, or you can purchase them and use them for yourself.  Order forms will be available in the Narthex and there will be two sets of orders:
Place orders on November 10th, or 17th with pickup on Sunday, November 24th.

Message from the Bishop

As the Polls Close, Seek God and the Welfare of the Whole

Siblings in Christ,

Greetings in the hope we have in Jesus Christ.

Hear these words of scripture: "Be agreeable, be sympathetic, be loving, be compassionate, be humble. That goes for all of you, no exceptions. No retaliation. No sharp-tongued sarcasm. Instead, bless—that’s your job, to bless. You’ll be a blessing and also get a blessing" (1 Peter 3:8-9, MSG).
