“Two Stories”

Acts 16:16-34
Paul and his companions were traveling to Europe for the first time after Paul received a vision of a Macedonian man pleading, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” In Philippi, as we saw last week, Paul met Lydia, an independent businesswoman. As a worshipper of God, Lydia, experienced God’s grace when the Lord opened her heart and became Paul's supporter.

The next person who received God’s grace through Paul was a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brings her owners “a great deal of money by fortune telling.” Another person who received God’s grace through Paul was a jailor who, after failing to prevent the prisoners’ escape, was about to take his own life. These two stories remind us of something important that we, as Christians, should not forget. Let’s explore what God is speaking to us today through these powerful accounts.

All are welcome to hear and receive God’s Word in person or on our Woodridge UMC YouTube Channel!

Safe Sanctuaries Training
THIS Sunday June 1st at 11:00 am

Safe Sanctuaries is an overt expression in making congregations safe places where children, youth, and elders may experience the abiding love of God and fellowship within the community of faith.  It is very important that any church employee or volunteer who will be supervising children, youth, or vulnerable adults during church related ministries complete this training, and it affects our insurance coverage if persons do not go through the training. The United Methodist Church requires this training be completed every three years. We will be having onsite training THIS Sunday, June 1st after worship service.  Other members of the congregation are also welcome to become certified.

Soup "Train"
Mike Marvel had another dental procedure and will be on a soup diet for the next three months.  We are looking for people to make soup, freeze some in a quart container(s) and bring it to church.  Please label the container with the type of soup. Pastor Dave will deliver the soup to Mike.

June Outreach Offering - Reconcilling Ministries

Since 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month has played a vital role in spotlighting the challenges faced by millions of Americans living with mental health conditions. Each May, this nationwide movement serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of mental wellness and community support.

NAMI DuPage proudly joins the national effort to break the stigmaamplify voices, and foster understanding around mental health. NAMI DuPage was founded in 1985 as an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, a nationwide mental health advocacy organization who were dedicated to improving the quality of lives of people affected by mental illnesses. NAMI DuPage has grown to an organization of over 1,000 members, and has become one of the largest and most innovative of over 600 affiliates nationwide. They envision a community that eliminates the stigma of mental illness, creates awareness to identify illness earlier, and supports and empowers all people impacted by mental health conditions to live life with purpose and meaning.  They provide individual services, support groups, workforce development programs and recreational activities.
