WUMC Care Package Ministry for College and Graduate Students
Let us keep in touch with our college and graduate school students! We’re not here just to see them on breaks and holidays. We want to help them stay connected with us and with God through our care package ministry. We are currently collecting information about our students’ schools and favorite things from their families. Soon, we will be asking the congregation to support the Outreach Committee in their efforts to assemble care packages for our degree seeking students. Together, we can remind our students that they are loved, supported, and prayed for year-round.

Northern Illinois Conference

In these difficult days, it has become increasingly dangerous for our Hispanic/Latine neighbors to leave their homes—including for work, which results in lost pay; to take children to their school bus stops; to shop for groceries; and to attend worship services.
To provide some relief, Bishop Schwerin has established an Emergency Solidarity Fund. It will assist primarily Hispanic/Latine people (but also other immigrants) who are increasingly vulnerable. (Read the Bishop's article here.)
People with whom our churches directly minister and those in our towns and neighborhoods can request help. Clergy can suggest needs they know about. The requests will be reviewed by a small, trustworthy group that includes clergy who minister in immigration contexts, laypeople, and conference staff.
This fund will be collecting funds through Jan. 16, 2026. The goal is for the first round of funds to be distributed in early November 2025.
Please consider giving to this fund as a way to follow Jesus’s commandment to love our neighbors.

Outreach Opportunities
October Outreach Offering -
South DuPage CROP Walk
This month we are happy to be directing our October outreach giving to support the South DuPage CROP Walk. This money is in addition to any donations made directly to our walkers on the Woodridge UMC team page 2025 CROP Hunger Walk - Woodridge UMC
The South DuPage community has raised over $1,000,000 over the past 39 years through holding this annual CROP Hunger Walk, which helps to support the grassroots, hunger-fighting development efforts of Church World Service (CWS) partner agencies in more than 80 countries.
CROP Hunger Walks help to provide tools of hope that empower people to meet their own needs. From seeds and tools, to wells and water systems, to nutrition-enhancing Moringa trees, to technical training and micro-enterprise loans, the key is people working together to identify their own development priorities.
- 75% of the money supports the hunger programs of the Church World Service(link is external) (the outreach arm of the National Council of Churches).
- 25% of the money supports local hunger agencies, including Downers Grove FISH, Hope's Front Door, Lisle Township Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels, People's Resource Center, and West Suburban Community Pantry.

There is a shopping cart that is waiting for donations. It sits in the narthex, usually near the sanctuary doors. The food pantry serves many households and always welcomes donations!!!
