"The Twin"

Our guest preacher while Pastor Dave is away is Pastor Carey Williams Bebar. Pastor Carey is the Director of Christian Education for Gary UMC in Wheaton. You can find more info about her here. Please join us in welcoming Pastor Carey to our church this Sunday!

Pastor Carey will be bringing us her Reflection "The Twin":
Thomas was called "the Twin." While the reasons for this name are debated—some say he was a sibling of Matthew, others that he bore a likeness to Jesus—what stands out is that we can share in both his doubt and his faith; in him, we find a twin in our own questioning hearts.

Join us for worship this Sunday at 10:00 am in person or on our Woodridge UMC YouTube Channel and today for Good Friday Service at 7:00 pm!

Native American Ministries Sunday, April 19th
What is Native American Ministries Sunday?
This Special Sunday is a denomination wide celebration designed to raise awareness and remind United Methodists of the gifts and contributions made by Native Americans to our society. A gap in knowledge exists in The United Methodist Church, in congregations and other United Methodist entities, relative to comprehending concepts of Native American life, cultures, languages, spirit, values, contemporary issues, and such. We affirm the sacredness of indigenous people, their languages, cultures, and gifts to the church and the world.

An offering is taken on this Special Sunday to support vital ministries and churches in the Native American communities. The offering allows The United Methodist Church to partner with existing native ministries to develop new programs on behalf of Native Americans.

Patio Committee Meeting
The Patio Committee (formerly the Preschool Committee) will be meeting on Sunday April 19th after service.  Please plan to go over the options that were to be researched since the last meeting.

Ad Council Meeting
There is an Administrative Council Meeting on Saturday, April 25th at 9:00 am in the Standing Rock room.  Please plan on attending if you are a member of the Ad Council, but everyone is welcome!

Sharing Our Gifts with Ray Graham
Our Ray Graham day program is looking for volunteers to spend an hour or two sharing their gifts with their clients. Can you bake (above the cupcake level), teach simple carpentry (fastening two boards together), talk about your culture, etc.? You are welcome to share your hobbies and knowledge! Please let the church office know, and we will share the list of volunteers with Ray Graham, so they can work out a schedule.

Altar Flower Donations
If you would like to donate an arrangement of flowers for the altar, you are welcome to bring one in.  Please let the church office know by noon the Wednesday before, especially if the flowers are in memory/honor of someone, so that they may be acknowledged in the bulletin and announcements.

Sunday School
Please join us!
Most Sundays, Children begin the worship service in the sanctuary with their family. Following the “Praying” segment, the children will be invited up to the chancel steps for conversation with the pastors. Then, the Sunday School teacher will meet the children in the Narthex (the big room outside the sanctuary) & walk them to their classroom. They will be in the Trinity Room in the main hallway.

Activity Bags are available in the Narthex every Sunday.

Will Focus on Hope
Under the theme “Practicing Hope,” clergy and elected lay members will gather for NIC’s 187th Annual Conference session, June 14th – 16th, at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center in Schaumburg. The theme invites participants to explore how hope shapes ministry, mission, and the future of the church. “Hope allows for newness. Hope allows that God will call us forward. Hope allows us to say yes to whatever call is placed on our lives,” said Bishop Schwerin.

Outreach Opportunities

April Outreach Offering - Save Abandoned Babies Foundation

The Save Abandoned Babies Foundation is a not-for-profit volunteer group dedicated to saving babies from being abandoned in dumpsters and other unsafe places. Our grassroots effort began in March of 2000 when our volunteers drafted a safe haven law and lobbied for its passage. The resulting Abandoned Newborn Infant Protection Act unanimously passed both the Illinois House and Senate and was signed into Illinois law in August of 2001.

The Save Abandoned Babies Foundation is now focused on spreading awareness of the Safe Haven Law, allowing a parent to safely relinquish their newborn to a person at a Police Station (including campus police), Fire Station, Hospital or Emergency Medical Facility with no questions asked.  Since the enactment of this law 160 newborns have been safely relinquished.

Ways to donate to the April Outreach Offering:

  • Check or cash in an Outreach Offering envelope placed in the offering plate in the Narthex (the room outside the sanctuary) or in the gold-plated mail slot at the church’s east door.
  • Online via our website. Select “Current Month Outreach” in the drop-down menu.
  • Text the amount you want to give to 630-449-7121 and select “Current Month Outreach” in the drop-down menu.
